August is among us and that means that it’s back to school season! In a few weeks’ time, kids and teenagers everywhere will be once again sitting in classrooms. While this undoubtedly leads to less time that kids are on their phones, back-to-school can still translate to an awesome opportunity for your app. You just have to know how to initialize the proper ASO Strategy.
Seasonalize your app listing
Like we talked about with before with prepping your app for summer, adding school themed aspects to your app listing could help it be more attractive to kids. This includes updating your icon, screenshots and even your title or subtitle! For shopping or fashion apps, start hitting up the “back to school” shopping mania that happens every year. If your app has a social or communication aspect, you can also bring this into play with school kids.
Take advantage of sports
The NFL and College football are both coming back into swing. If your app has some sort of sport-related aspect, play into that. High school sports are also starting back up, giving you the perfect chance to target high school athletes or high school fans! Soccer, football, volleyball and cheerleading are all up for grabs!
Bring in school-themed perks and challenges
If your app has a rewards or challenges aspect, bring in limited edition back-to-school themed aspects. This could be anything from a special “badge” to a whole set of school inspired activities.
Capitalize on learning
Parents and kids alike will be searching for apps to both help them prepare for the upcoming school season and to do well during school. If you have an app that can help in any respect (think student communication, logic games, to-do lists, school supplies, etc), then make sure you’re highlighting that both in your app listing and in your app.
Encourage kids to share
Consider taking advantage of features in your app that encourage kids to share you app. This could be anything from sharing a high school to providing incentives for adding friends in your app. During the summer, kids weren’t around each other nearly as much. Now that they’ll be concentrated together for roughly 8 hours a day, they’re going to talk a lot more and share about the apps they love.
The start of the school year is an exciting time — in many ways, it’s a fresh start! Take advantage of the upcoming school year and make sure your app is gets on and stays on kids’ phones.
